5G and beyond

  • 5G isn’t just about faster data. It potentially enables everything from asset monitoring, video on demand and autonomous cars to private networks, virtual reality and e-health – and much more
  • 5G will transform work and play, giving people anywhere, anytime access to services once only available through fixed fibre – and bringing many more players into the market to provide those services
  • 5G will also be a game-changer for the developing world, bringing broadband options to those who can’t afford or access fixed broadband connectivity

What we do

  • We advise on all aspects of 5G including technology choices and roadmaps, indoor and outdoor deployment, changing business models, spectrum auctions, spectrum sharing, use cases, private networks, virtualisation, regulatory requirements and 5G options
  • Our clients include governments, regulators, regional and international groupings, operators, vendors and venue owners
  • We have deep technical knowledge of network rollouts – including the densification strategies underpinning 5G. We separate the hype from the very real opportunities associated with the new services and capabilities 5G rollout will deliver, helping you to make the correct business decisions

Why we are different

  • We understand the extraordinary array of options 5G brings for wireless networks – from IoT to broadband, from private networks to neutral host, from machine learning to AI and from FWA to WANs. We can help you to understand which options could work for you
  • We know how factors such as regulation, virtualisation, spectrum availability, standardisation and open systems will all affect how and whether 5G is successful, and can help you evaluate what that means for your business
  • Our experts have been part of the rollout of wireless technologies all the way from analogue and 2G to today’s 5G networks. 6G is already on our radar. We constantly monitor and often participate in the standardisation process. Our CTO is an advisory board member for UK5G

What 5G can offer – and how we can help

5G is undoubtedly complex – but it could also be transformative, hosting multiple services and applications, with high speed broadband and the Internet of Things among them. Proponents claim that 5G will be unlike any other mobile standard to date; a technology that could revolutionise not just everyday communications but entire industries and public services like automotive, healthcare and utilities. We continue to play a leading role identifying the value propositions that drive the direction of technical specifications and the all-important business case that will be essential in generating investment for 5G development. This experience puts us in a unique position among wireless advisors.

What we offer

  • Analysis and insight: To tackle 5G will mean understanding not just technology but markets, economics and investment strategy. Our role is to bring all these worlds together in our analysis and offer insights on that basis.
  • Experience: To make strategic decisions on demand and business models means taking into account the changing requirements of operators, vendors and end users, as well as many new stakeholders and value chains. It also requires an assessment of the role of existing 2G, 3G, LTE and Wi-Fi assets during the transition to 5G. We have already demonstrated this capability as part of a number of important 5G-related projects.
  • An independent view: We have the vision, technical expertise and experience to see 5G in context and to assess, sometimes critically, official policy or pronouncements. Perhaps most importantly, we are independent wireless experts with experience in delivering 3G and 4G networks and the economics, regulation and standards behind them. We can assess where 5G is going because we know where it came from.
