
Mike Walsh
BSc CEng MIET Satellite ExpertMike specialises in broadcasting and satellite communications, bringing 40 years of experience from roles in operations, manufacturing, design and service provision.
Recently at Arqiva, Mike worked with Ofcom regarding sharing of BSS & FSS band frequencies with other applications including uses, such as LTE and for 5G. He led a study to characterise scatter due to wet and dry trees at a UK teleport, and was involved in Arqiva’s 5G trials in 2018. Mike works closely with broadcasters and satellite operators, and led a project to respecify the transmission parameters for DTH broadcasting, yielding significant throughput improvements.
Previously to Arqiva, Mike held roles at British Aerospace, where he was involved with ESA satellite programmes/studies, Advent and the BBC. Currently Mike is working on non-geostationary satellite constellations, to deliver affordable connectivity to the underserved parts of the world.
Mike lectures at University of Surrey, and is involved with STEM in schools throughout the UK.
