Real Wireless is proud to announce the successful completion and official publication of its latest project, Spectrum Sandbox. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the team and reinforces Real Wireless’ commitment to innovation, quality, and impactful work.
The project, launched in May 2024, centered on developing innovative spectrum-sharing solutions for the upper 6 GHz band and the upper n77 band (3.8–4.2 GHz). After months of dedicated effort, collaboration, and refinement, the results have been published by Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT).
We implemented two sandboxes. Firstly, with our partner Qualcomm, we demonstrated a proof-of-concept of Cross Technology Signalling to enable Mobile and Wi-Fi sharing in the upper 6 GHz band. In the second sandbox, in collaboration with partners Digital Catapult and Freshwave, we explored opportunities to pack private networks closely together by predicting coverage more accurately and utilising the interference tolerance ability.
Head of Policy and regulation, Dr Abhaya Sumanasena, who led the Real Wireless Consortium, “We are excited to share the culmination of this work. This project reflects our team’s expertise and the value we strive to deliver in every initiative. Most importantly, we developed an industry-validated framework that can be used for other bands in the future”.
The Real Wireless-led consortium was recognised at this year’s Future Network Awards, receiving the Share Infrastructure Advancement Award from DSIT and The UK Telecoms Innovation Network (UKTIN).
