Simon Fletcher, CEO at Real Wireless, and Costa Tsourkas, Managing Consultant, will be attending MWC 2024 next week and will be on the lookout for the latest insight and predictions from global change-makers.
As a GLOMO judge for the sustainability category, Simon will have a keen eye on how the industry is shaping up towards this agenda. Real Wireless clients increasingly ask for our expertise not only to assess economic sustainability but also to address the broader scope implied by the term sustainability today. Most of the time we will be adding steps to the step counter and walking to exhibition areas for various meetings, however, we’ll always embrace the chance to take in the content from the conference.
The conference agenda for the 3 days (26 – 29 February) looks to be covering some useful hot topics in the sector our initial views on the sessions we’ll be dipping into are below:
Monday
Keynote 2: The Digital Vision for Teleco’s
This session will explore how mobile operators are at a new juncture of their evolution, moving from connectivity to selling comprehensive solutions fit for digital use. Speakers include Frehiwot Tamru, CEO of Ethio Telecom, and Vicki Brady, CEO of Telstra Limited.
Leveraging Big Data for 5G Monetization
One of the key questions this session will discuss is ‘How can telcos and organisations monetise the data they hold whilst building trust with consumers?’. We’re looking forward to a thought-provoking discussion with leaders in the industry.
Open Ran towards commercialization and operations
The panel will be moderated by a friend of Real Wireless – Sadayuki Abeta, VP and Global Head of Open RAN Solutions at OREX Evangelist at NTT DOCOMO, INC. We look forward to the insights from this session on how Open RAN will be moving into the commercial space. Followers of Real Wireless will know that we have been developing Techno-Economic capability to assess product and solution options around Open RAN.
Smart Mobility Summit – accelerating railways: full speed to the future with 5G
Industry leaders including, Michele Marrone, Senior Managing Director at Accenture, Roberto Tundo, Group Chief Technology, Innovation & Digital Officer at Ferrovie Italiane, Jennifer Didonim Head of Cloud, Edge and Mobile Private Networks Portfolio at Vodafone Business, will explore how railways need to harness the power of 5G connectivity to enhance sustainability and facilitate the energy transition. Including, the latest developments, opportunities, and intricacies of this transition.
Tuesday
Telecom Executive Roundtable: What is the Role of Telecom in Today’s Data Economy
This roundtable session will try to answer the question, what is the role of the telecom service provider in the new data economy and what new data monetisation opportunities will open up for operators willing to lead? There will also be a discussion about the critical role of AI, the ecosystem as an innovation engine, and navigating industry regulation. Having evaluated AI-based approaches for startups looking to leverage AI in their solutions, we understand the potential importance of the convergence of AI and traditional telco-based approaches – an area for value-creating innovations.
Is Open Ran living up to its interoperability promise ?
One of the challenging subjects this session will tackle is the complexity of managing a multivendor ecosystem and the strategies aimed at overcoming challenges with Open RAN deployment.
Wednesday
Analysts unveiling the 2024 global trends report
This session will be in support of the launch of the latest Global Mobile Trends Series. It will take a look at the most important things happening in the telecom industry and explain what they mean for people, companies, and governments. The art of identifying the trends that will force change in the industry is fraught with potential pitfalls – especially with the increased instability in the political contexts in several Countries this year. How will the analysts take these Political and Economic drivers into account?
Convergence of 5G AI at the Edge
This panel will look into how 5G and Edge computing can increase speed and reduce latency, as well as add AI into the mix. They will cover data privacy, security, and network infrastructure requirements.
O-RAN Alliance Summit: Accelerating Open RAN adoption
The O-RAN Alliance will be joined by members of the ORAN community to discuss how O-RAN intelligent solutions use technology shifts to address the changes needed in areas like TCO, energy efficiency, automation, agility, security, system integration, certification and improved economics. Simon Fletcher will be attending the summit and is looking forward to hearing their findings.
Thursday
This session will be moderated by Alex Besen, CEO of The Besen Group. He will be joined by top experts Brendan O’Reilly, Group COO at Boldyn Networks, Cayetano Carbajo Martin, Director at Telefonica, and Waris Sagheer, CTO and Routing Architecture at Cisco Systems. Together they will discuss how network slicing will play a role in multiple use cases and if private 5G is the best option for future networks. Slicing has been challenging to bring to market, R&D has been dedicated to the cause for some time now. Over-provisioning in the networks (already achieved in some fixed network locations) is a pre-requisite to giving any chance to slicing – but it is not the only challenge.
