New Senior Consultant: Dr Mike Kennett

Real Wireless is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Mike Kennett as Senior Consultant, further strengthening expertise in spectrum strategy, wireless regulation and next-generation connectivity.

Mike brings more than 25 years’ experience advising organisations on spectrum policy, wireless technologies and telecommunications regulation. His expertise spans mobile infrastructure, private networks, enterprise connectivity, critical communications and radio systems, helping operators, infrastructure providers, enterprises and public sector organisations turn complex technical and regulatory challenges into practical business solutions.

Commenting on the appointment, Abhaya Sumanasena, Head of Policy and Regulation, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Mike to the team. He brings valuable experience from real-world mobile and private network deployments, together with a strong track record of building effective relationships across industry and government. His expertise provides a strong foundation as we continue helping clients solve complex wireless challenges and deliver meaningful benefits to the organisations and users they serve.”

Before joining Real Wireless, Mike was a Senior Consultant and Head of Regulatory Affairs at Freshwave, where he led engagements with Ofcom, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), and industry bodies on spectrum and regulatory policy. During his time there, he acquired and managed more than 35 spectrum licences for private 4G and 5G networks and played a leading role in developing the company’s private networks offering.

Earlier in his career, Mike worked as an independent wireless consultant and held senior technical and strategy roles at BAA, Red-M and NTL Broadcast (now Arqiva). Over more than two decades, he has built a reputation for combining deep technical knowledge with strategic insight across spectrum management, regulatory affairs and wireless network deployment.

Mike is already well known to the Real Wireless team, having collaborated on several projects, including leading the shared spectrum workstream for the DSIT-funded Spectrum Sandbox programme. He directed a programme of radio propagation measurements in the City of London to compare real-world performance in the 5G shared spectrum band with Ofcom prediction models and commercial ray-tracing tools. The findings were shared with Ofcom to support improvements to its modelling capabilities and help unlock greater commercial opportunities for shared spectrum.

He has also represented industry through techUK and the Small Cell Forum’s Regulatory & Policy Group, contributing to discussions on spectrum access, wireless infrastructure and future regulatory frameworks.

“Having worked closely with many of the Real Wireless experts over the years, and more recently as part of their Spectrum Sandbox project, I’m delighted to be joining such a highly respected team. I look forward to helping organisations grow and adapt as wireless connectivity continues to evolve, creating new opportunities and challenges,” said Dr Mike Kennett.
